Power’s Out, Game On

You see a flash.

You hear a crash.

Now all the lights are out, the t1 internet is down and the television doesn’t work.

The power may be out in your home but that doesn’t mean you have to spend the duration of the storm cooped up inside with nothing to do. We have a small list of exciting ideas for games you can play with the family to help pass the time. In fact, these games are so fun you might not even notice it when the power does come back on.

Shadow Show
With a little light and a little imagination you and your family can have hours of fun making shadows against the wall and guessing what they are.

Charades
A good game that requires a lot of movement and a lot of imagination and not a lot of light. Laugh the hours away trying to guess what your opponent is trying to act out.

20 Questions
Form an idea of an object, fruit, vegetable, person, whatever and have your opponent try to guess what it is. The catch: they can only answer twenty yes or no questions to deduce what it is.

Remember, the fun doesn’t have to stop when the lights go out.

Playing Cards with Other Family Friends

Getting together with family and friends is an occasion that most people enjoy enormously. And what better way to spend an evening than talking and laughing with them over a game of cards? Many special memories are made of occasions like this that will be talked about for years to come.

There are so many different card games available to choose from that you many have trouble deciding. A lot depends on who is going to join in the game.Didn-t catch that? This explains it. If there are children, you will want to have an easier card game with simple rules like Go Fish or Old Maid. But if it is only adults, you can try games such as Bridge, Euchre, Hearts or even Poker. Pinochle is another popular game that has been around for a long time, as well as Crazy Eights.

Just remember to not take these games seriously–have fun with them, and just enjoy the time together that you are having by playing cards with other family friends whom you may not see very often. If you aren’t sure of the rules, you can always find instructions online and print them out if needed.

Competition isn’t the point, but having fun is!

Walking Your Pets in the Park

It is always helpful to walk your pets in the park. You can do this every once in a while. It doesn’t have to be done every single day when your pet goes out for fresh air. Parks are one of the most common places that pet owners bring their pets. You can take your pets for a nice stroll in the park at any time of the day. If it is for their daily walk, or just to get some fresh air, the park makes the perfect place for them. You can sit outside with them, and even pay with them in the park. You may be able to let them run free if there are not other people around. You can do things in the park with your pet, that you may not be able to do at your home. You may not have a big enough backyard, or it just may not be fenced in. You won’t have to worry about your pet not being allowed in a park because it is a free community. Parks always make the perfect place to bring your pet any day and any time. They will definitely love you for it.

Disc golf, you say? It sounds fun and it is. This game is becoming very popular in the United States and is played in at least 20 other countries. Of course, there is a course to follow, much like regular ball golf. The lowest score wins, again like regular ball golf. But unlike regular ball golf, this is a disc game in which players toss discs into baskets or targets. This game seems to combine two previous well known games, Frisbee and golf. Who would have thought? Well, obviously some did! In 2010, there were more than 3,000 disc golf courses, and guess what, approximately 87 of them are free for you to use.Is this new to you? Catch up here You may have come across the courses in parks as many public parks have installed them. Disc golf is fun for everyone regardless of age, gender, and even economic status as you can usually play for free.

Some of the terms used in disc golf are basket, headrick (named after the inventor, Ed Headrick), marker, hyzer, helix, roller, hammer, and anhyzer. Two more terms that you would recognize are putting green and putt. It would be beneficial to learn some basic knowledge as to what these terms mean before actually playing a game of disc golf. This game is easy to find online so you can learn and understand how to play.

This is a great game for family entertainment. In a time where it cost a leg and an arm just to go to a baseball or football game, disc golf is a refreshing change. It is also a good way of getting in some exercise unlike attending a baseball game or taking in a movie. Make a day out of it. Bring a picnic lunch or grill out at the park. Use this as a theme for your older child-s birthday party. You can play just 9 holes instead of 18. Supply snacks, food and a birthday cake and there you go.
